is it march already? oy.
i’ve asked phil, my sp(eyes) on the ground in ottawa, to do a little recon for me. it concerns the (other) book i’m working on mentally preparing. legal clearances and whatnot. all very boring stuff but it must be done so yours truly avoids a lawsuit.
i’ve been listening to old cbc archive tapes of robertson davies. interesting and helpful.
things are quiet over at camp darcy, but i expect that won’t be the case too much longer. also, when my imac arrives, i may be able to do some video chats with the boys. (i recently re-watched this clip. it still knocks me flat. xmas + darcys = crazy.)
i guess kerouac’s first novel will be published for the first time in its entirety. i will definitely have to check it out.
this article from adbusters about hipsters and hipster culture has officially blown my mind. so much to think about. so much that makes me say “yes,” and more that makes me say “no, that’s not it at all.” sure, yes, hipsters are basically the beat generation with twitter and better clothes. and that is o-kay. i mean, this bit even invokes the holga as an emblem of hipsterdom, which i suppose makes me an aging hipster (or “crypster,” rather. as in tales from the crypt. which is sort of true.)
still, this notion that hipsterdom is “the end product of all prior countercultures [but] stripped of its subversion and originality” (not a new argument, by the way) is not sitting well. i need some more time yet to think it through. i’ll revisit this later.
it looks as though burnaby/coquitlam will finally get the evergreen skytrain line. this excites me. too bad it won’t be operational until 2014. that’s five years from now.
think about indeed. I think...which most offends...idea...
